Voting and Political Activity

University employees are encouraged to vote in local and national elections.  Most employees will be able to vote outside of their normal working hours using either early voting or extended hours as offered by many polling stations on election day.

Employees may also request the use of flex time or leave (compensatory, bonus or vacation) to vote.  Supervisors and Managers are encouraged to allow employees flexibility in reaching the polls.

Employees who are working inside a polling facility in a non-partisan, unpaid role, such as assisting voters with the voting process, may use community service leave.  However, employees may not use community service leave to vote, for paid activities, or to distribute information on a particular candidate or issue.

Individuals who are registered to vote in Mecklenburg County may vote early in the Cone Center at UNC Charlotte from October 27 to November 5.  The hours of operation will be:

  • 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27 - Friday, October 28
  • 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29
  • 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30
  • 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 31 - Friday, November 4
