EHRA Conversion for Information Technology
As part of the 2017 Appropriations Act, the North Carolina General Assembly expanded the exemptions under the North Carolina Human Resource Act (EHRA non-Faculty) to include University information technology positions exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This change in the legislation means that these positions will be eligible to convert from their current SHRA designation (Subject to the State Human Resources Act) to an EHRA (Exempt from the State Human Resources Act) designation.
The opportunity to convert will be offered to any current SHRA employee who is in a FLSA Exempt IT position. FLSA exempt level positions are those that meet criteria identifying them as being eligible for the Computer Employee Exemption. FLSA exempt employees are paid on a salary basis and are not eligible for overtime.
